Justice has been done, what is needed now is humble plea for mercy

Few months ago I was discussing Anand Jon's case with one of my friends who is an advocate. When I mentioned about him to my friend, he also suddenly became interested and started searching up in the net about Anand Jon case. I was trying to ask for his opinion regarding whether this 59 years sentence could be commuted and whether Anand Jon can be set free.

From somewhere in the internet, my friend managed to download the full chargesheet against Anand Jon. It was more than 50 pages I think. When we both started to read it, I almost suffered from a heart attack. It was so full of unspeakable acts against young women, I stopped reading it after 5 minutes.

Finally after going through the full chargesheet, my friend gave his opinion that under American law, justice only was done in Anand Jon's case. He said that normally, people who commit that kind of crimes receive more than hundreds of years in jail. So there is no question of injustice. Anand Jon's family is going around saying that they suffered injustice and racial discrimination and all that, but it is not so. They are saying about some lie detector test which he passed but lie detector test is not accepted in American courts as evidence. When I think of those American kids, and put my kids in their place, I feel so horrible, so disgusted.

When Anand Jon pleaded guilty in New York and Texas courts, they gave him a lenient sentence and dropped the case against him in both of those locations. He should have pleaded guilty in California as well, that was the right thing to do. But due to what we call in Malayalam as 'ahankaaram' (too much arrogant pride in themselves), he and his family did not do so, and they suffered a far greater punishment. It was a biggest foolishness.

Justice was definitely served, even though it may be harsh. What is now needed is a humble plea for mercy from Anand Jon and his family. They must throw away their 'ahankaaram' and humbly admit their mistake. Then only God will also help people. They must humbly plead before the higher courts in USA, the Governor of California, and before God. They must stop telling lies about US Courts that they did not do justice to Anand Jon. By God's grace only, I hope that Anand Jon will be freed from jail, and he can testify to God's mercy at all times.

My advice to all people, especially young people, wherever in the world they are in, is that we should be humble and polite at all times. Arrogant pride (ahankaaram) will alienate us both from God and from our fellow human beings. It is good to be proud of our own achievements, but we must always remember that if God had not given us the talent, then we will not achieve anything. If we commit a mistake, we must freely admit it, instead of trying to cover it up or trying to blame others. If we admit our mistakes, we will gain forgiveness both from God and our fellow human beings. May God bless each one of us, and help us to live like brethren!
